REMOTE treks

KAIILASH PILGRIMAGE

A KAILASH PILGRIMAGE

This is a rare and unique opportunity to join an escorted trek through the remote region of Humla in Western Nepal. The goal is to reach the most sacred mountain in the world – Mt Kailash – the fabled Shambala. Very few trekkers have passed this way and only a few permits each year are granted into this secluded region.

The remote valley of Humla is inhabited by Nyinba people and is completely cut off by snow from November to April from the rest of Nepal.  It is a demanding yet beautiful journey through incredible scenery and fascinating villages with ancient gompas.

From the Tibetan border we drive to the holy Lake Manasarovar to prepare for the circuit of Mt Kailash. We have allowed 4 days for the kora to allow time to hike up to the sheer north face of this beautiful mountain and acclimatise to the rarefied air. Our May departure co-incides with the famous Saga Dawa festival where pilgrims travel from all corners of Tibet to make a pilgrimage at this time.

Check out the photos in the Kailash gallery and contact us for a detailed dossier.

We return to Kathmandu overland via Zhangmu, camping in sight of Shishapangma and Everest.

2002 is the Year of the Horse and the most auspicious year for a circuit of Mt Kailash. In this year one circuit is the equivalent in merit of 13 treks around the mountain.
