This walking holiday is the easiest of our tours and is centred on the beautiful village of Vitsa high above the Vikos gorge. Each day you will accompany your guide on walks of up to 5 hours to visit spectacular viewpoints high above the Vikos Gorge, walk to nearby villages for lunch, and generally have the time to enjoy the wonderful landscape. Spring is a particularly beautiful time for a leisurely walking holiday with lots of flowers and a backdrop of snow-covered peaks.

1st DAY: 
Arrive Athens.

2nd DAY:   
Transfer to the airport for the spectacular flight to Ioannina from where we transfer by bus to the mountain village of Vitsa (1 hour).

3rd DAY:  VITSA – DILOFO – ELATI – VITSA
Our first day is a gentle introduction to this magnificent landscape of picturesque villages and wild limestone landscape. We descend to a little stream and climb up to the village of Dilofo. We take time to explore this typical Zagorian village with its beautiful well preserved houses, traditional narrow alleys and views of the Pindos Mountains. We continue to the bridge of Agios Minas and from here continue through forest to the village of Elati, known for its beautiful pine trees. Return by bus to Vitsa. (walking time approx 3-4hrs) 

4th DAY:  VITSA – OXYA – VITSA
The day begins with a climb to Ano Vitsa to arrive at an archaeological settlement. We continue walking along the road to Monodendri village. We ascend the stone stairs through the village and walk towards Oxya for about 2km. From here there is a beautiful view down the Vikos Gorge. Return by bus to Vitsa (walking time approx 3-4hrs)

5th DAY: VITSA – MONODENDRI – VITSA
We descend the Vitsa stairs to reach the bottom of the Vikos Gorge. Traversing the ravine we will admire the rare varieties of wild birds and flowers that have found protection in the gorge. Early in the afternoon we we will ascend a switchbacking staircase out of the gorge to Monodendri village and continue on foot to Vitsa. (walking time approx 4-5hrs)

6th DAY VITSA – KIPI- NEGRADES – VITSA
In the morning we transfer by bus from Vitsa to Kipi village. After a visit to the incredible bridges of Kipi we follow a delightful trail that affords views of the villages of Tsepelovo and Skammeli set against the backdrop of the Pindos Mountains. The trail starts to descend along a small stream through forest to reach the village of Negrades. Return to Vitsa by bus. (walking time approx 3-4hrs).

7th DAY: VITSA – ANO-PEDINA – ELAFOTOPOS – VITSA
We transfer by bus from Vitsa to Ano Pedina from where we ascend a small shepherd path through meadows. The path continues along the edge of the Vikos Gorge to reach the village of Elafotopos which at 1100m affords wonderful views of the gorge and towards the towers of Papingo. Transfer by bus to Vitsa. (approx walking time 3-4hrs)

8th DAY   DEPART FOR IOANNINA AND FLY TO ATHENS.
In the afternoon there is time to explore this fascinating city and visit the Acropolis or Archaeological Museum.

9th DAY : DEPART
Further time to explore before taking the early evening flight back to London
